Competitions provide an opportunity for VUWLSS members to hone their legal skills through practical experience. They involve real and tangible application of the law to simulated scenarios. Competing will extend your legal knowledge
VUWLSS organises and runs four main competitions annually: mooting, negotiation, client interviewing and witness examination. These events are open to all law students. Additionally, VUWLSS runs a mooting, client interviewing and negotiation competition specifically for 200-level students. VUWLSS runs competition training sessions targeted at both beginner and advanced levels to foster professional and personal development.
Competing in legal competitions carries a lot of prestige both within the University and the wider legal industry. Winners represent Victoria University of Wellington at the New Zealand Law Students’ Association national competitions. Opportunities to attend a number of international competitions are also available to VUWLSS members.
It will be the policy of VUWLSS Competitions in 2016 that should a competitor not give the required notice in withdrawing from a competition (this will be stated on the competition form) that their registration in future competitions for the next full year may be restricted.
Entry into Junior Competitions may be restricted based on performance in Senior Competitions. Please consult the Competitions Officers for more information.
VUWLSS Competitions even has there own Facebook page so be sure to check it out.
